Eastern National Tournament Crown Goes To Elmer Hohl
This year’s Eastern National was as tough as the World Tournament and by looking at the scores it seems the Erie courts are ready for the World Tournament in 1969.
Elmer Hohl set a new world’s record of 89.1% for average in
a long tournament. Elmer threw 42
straight ringers against Steve Fennicchia and Paul Focht had 42 straight
against Jim Knisley. Jim retaliated
with 38 straight ringers. The best game
was Elmer Hohl’s 96.6% against Steve Fennicchia. The Hohl-Steinfeldt game had a string of 14 consecutive 4-deads!
The women’s division was very interesting as Lorraine
Thomas and Ruth Hangen ended in a tie and Lorraine won the play-off game. Edith Werth was named the Class B champion
and young Rebecca Sebring pitching in her first tournament averaged over 16%
ringers.
