Al Zadroga Captures 1972 New Castle Spring Fling

Al Zadroga, Elizabeth, Pa. Pitched in midseason form to emerge the winner of the annual Spring Fling Open tournament held at the Scotland Meadows courts, New Castle, Pa on June 10-11. Al needed a victory over Buck Engle in the final game to throw Class A into a two-way tie. He tossed 122 ringers in 144 shoes, 84.7% to win 52-48. Al then followed up with 100 for 114, 87.7%, beating Engle 51-35 to wrap up the title.

Harold Clippinger, Mt. Holly Springs, Pa, showed he is going to be a solid Class A contender by sweeping Class B with a 7-0 record and 74.9%.

In another playoff situation, Pete Vlachos, Bridgewater, Pa, edged Carl Elder of New Castle for the Class C title.

Class D was won by fast improving Bill Triplett of E. Liverpool, Oh.

Ken Smith, another pitcher from E. Liverpool, went undefeated to win Class E.

Class F also ended in a tie. John Schoullis nipped Chick Forney, New Castle, Pa, 52-45 in the playoff game.
