Clair Bruce Wins 1972 Lawrence County Open

 

Clair Bruce, New Castle, Pa. hit the magic 80% ringer mark to win the annual Lawrence County Open Tournament on August 27th. The tournament was held at the Scotland Meadows Courts in New Castle, Pa. Ken Smith, East Liverpool, Ohio, one of the fastest improving pitchers in the area went undefeated to win Class B honors. Joe Mancini, New Castle, the local club secretary, captured Class C. Class D was won by John Wilson, Sharon, Pa., a relative newcomer giving a good account of himself. Another pitcher who showed a great deal of promise in his very first tournament was fifteen-year-old Bill Aunkst of New Castle.
