Bruce Retains Title In Lawrence County
Clair Bruce of New Wilmington, Pa., won the Lawrence County Horseshoe Championship. Bruce won the title the first time in 1966. Bob Morris of New Castle has been the reigning Champ for 1967.
At
the end of regular play Bruce and Carl Elder were all tied up with four wins
and one loss. Bruce won the play-off
game 50-36.
In
class B, Opal Corbett of New Castle, who has won second place in class B for
three straight years finally won the B Championship. There was a three-way tie for first place between Opal, Ted
Corbett and Dale Elder of New Wilmington at the end of regulation play. Ted eliminated Elder in the play off 50-33, and
then lost to Opal in the final play-off game 51-29.
Longest
game went 88 shoes with Dale Elder winning over Chuck Forney of New Castle,
52-46. Most exciting game was between
the Brightshue brothers with went 82 shoes, with Vernon Brightshue winning over
his brother Merle 51-44. Trophies and
cash awards were given by the New Castle Club.
