James Solomon – Red Mill Open Champion
James Solomon of Uniontown, Pa., won the April Red Mill Open by defeating Howard Shriver of Wadestown, West Virginia in a sudden death playoff. One of the most exciting games of the tournament was when Solomon defeated Sutton of Washington, Pa. At one point in the game, Sam had a consecutive string of 36 ringers, when Solomon appeared to come out of nowhere, and bang! – he defeated Sutton.
Hats off to three excellent pitchers in the Class B
section. Rich Maroni, Frank Kilinsky,
and Clair Bruce ended the round robin in a tie for first place, with all three
shooting over the 70% mark. Rich then
defeated both men to win the championship.
Class C saw John Fulton, many times Pennsylvania State
Champion, pitching better than he has for some time. All of us that saw him expect to see him have a great year in
1968.
