Solomon Dethrones Zadroga To Capture Jefferson Open

Jim Solomon of Uniontown, Pa, past State Class A champion, won the 1967 Jefferson Horseshoe championship sponsored by the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company.  Jim slated 10 victories to 1 defeat with a 79.2% average.

The Class B pitchers were the ones who were really hurt by the rain, as they were the ones who had to play under sloppy conditions but even at that, Jack Rainbow and John Fulton turned in creditable 62% averages.

Wayne Richards went undefeated to cop Class C laurels; second place went to Phil Lovetere whose only loss was to Richards.

In comparison to the past an unusual feature of the tournament was that there was only one playoff and that was in Class D where Cyril Enders downed Russell Wade 50-38.

The winners in Classes E, F, and G all were undefeated in posting 5-0 records.  Respectively in order they were Wilbur Barnhart, John Beck and Jim Schneider.

Opal Corbett, womens state champion, was entered in the tourney and gave a good account of herself.

The chairman of the tournament Myron Huffman, his aides Clarence Virgin and John Titus, the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department should be complimented for a difficult situation very well done.
