Jim Solomon Captures Vanport, Pennsylvania Spring Warm-Up

Jimmy Solomon of Uniontown went undefeated in the first major outdoor tournament of the Keystone State season to win the spring championship.  Not far behind was a young newcomer to Pennsylvania tournaments, Jim Knisley of Bremen, Ohio.  Knisley displayed exceptional poise as he posted his record of 3 wins and 2 losses, and 76.8% ringers even with the handicaps of wind and cold temperatures.

The Beaver Valley horseshoe organization, under the direction of Herman Boyer, is to be congratulated for finding a new site and hosting this annual spring tournament.  One hundred year old shade trees, playground facilities for the kids, clean rest rooms within a hundred yards, and a snack bar for sandwiches, drinks, etc., makes Vanport one of the best tournament sites anywhere.  The Pennsylvania association hopes to make extensive use of these facilities in the future.
