Danny Kuchcinski, youthful sharpshooter from
Erie, ties onto New Castle Open crown -- June 11-12, 1966
With almost perfect weather prevailing throughout the tournament and
before a large crowd, Dan Kuchcinski, from Erie won 5 games and lost one to
place first in the New Castle Open tourney held at the George Washington courts
in New Castle, Pa. 17 year old Danny lost the first game to Jim Solomon, a
Former State Champ, from Uniontown and then went on to beat the rest of his
opponents. He averaged 73.5% ringers for the six games. Solomon came in second
with a 3-2 record. Frank Peluso of New Brighton was the defending champion.
At the end of regular play, Burrell
Brobeck of New Brighton and Tony Ellis also of New Brighton each had 4 wins and
one loss. Brobeck won the playoff game 53-39 to take Class B honors.
Class C winner was Herman Boyer of
Beaver with a 4-1 record. Bob Morris of New Castle won the second place spot
with a 3-2 record.
Robert Werner of Pittsburgh was the
winner in class D with six wins and only one loss. David Marsh won second place
money with 5 wins and 2 losses.
Earl Winsper, Poland, Ohio won all his
game to top Class E. Second place was a tie between Wm. Meador of Youngstown
and Opal Corbett of New Castle. Each had 3 wins and 2 losses. Class F winner
was Edward Blum, of Darlington who won all of his games, 5-0. Ted Corbett of
New Castle came in second with a 4-1 record.
