Sam Sutton Captures First Place in Washington County Penna. Tourney

Sam Sutton was the first place finisher in the Class A of the Washington County Horseshoe Tournament that was held August 28^th-29^th. Sam tossed a neat 74.5% ringers throughout the seven game round robin tourney, winning seven games in succession. The runner-up in Class A was Joe Wohar, who turned in a 6-1 slate and a 63.2% for his seven games. This was a very close match because Sutton and Wohar were both undefeated when they met in the seventh game of the tourney.

In Class B a tie was recorded after the regular seven games were played. F. Oliverio and H. Meighen were deadlocked at 6-1 records, but in the sudden death single game following, Oliverio came out on top with a score of 51-39 and a percentage of 52.4%, while Meighen tossed 48.9%.

In Class C the champ was Nick Wohar, who tied with Robert Comstock for first place in seven games, but won out in the playoff game by a score of 50-28. Both men carded a 6-1 record into the playoff. Nick Wohar tossed a 39.8% while runner-up Comstock threw 36.2%. In the playoff, Wohar had 35.3% ringers while Comstock had 26.5%.

Class D was captured by G. Allison with C. Ealy as runner-up. Allison tossed 32.1% and turned in an undefeated scorecard in taking the Class D for the second time in a row. Runner-up Ealy had a 5-1 record and pitched 30.7%.

C. Nagolde took the class E with an undefeated record and Jack Wagner lost only one game to place second with a 27.1%.

Mary Cherup was the winner in the women’s Class with a 5-0 record and a ringer percentage of 20.8. The runner-up was Elaine Dorsey, who had a 4-1 record and 19.4% ringers.

In the Junior Division for boys 16 and under, Larry Bird was the winner with a 4-0 record and 24.6% ringers, while the second place finisher was D. Bird who pitched 24.5% ringers and had a 2-2 record.
