Gilmore Tops in Lawrence County Tournament

The weatherman gave the New Castle Horseshoe Club a sunny day when Clyde Gilmore of Volant won the Championship Title of Lawrence County at the George Washington Courts.  Gilmore had to beat Clair Bruce of New Wilmington twice to get the first place trophy.  At the end of five games, Bruce was tied for first place with Bob Morris of New Castle with 5 games apiece and no losses and two more games to be played.  Morris lost to Vernon Brightshue 49-50, which put Morris out of the running.  Gilmore who had 5 and 1 beat Bruce making their record even 6-1.  Then came the playoff game with Gilmore jumping out ahead and staying there for the entire game, the game ended 50-33.

Trophies were awarded to first and second places by the New Castle Horseshoe Club.  First and second place trophies were also awarded in Class B which played on Saturday in cold rainy weather.

Chuck Fulerton of New Castle won five straight games to win B.  Opal Corbett of New Castle won four losing only to Fulerton to win 2nd.
