James Solomon Wins Eastern National Horseshoe Crown

Jimmy Solomon, the Pennsylvania State Champion, became the 1965 Eastern National Champion by going undefeated in the round robin competition.  Jimmy appeared to be in serious trouble only once.  That was when he was nudged by George Mahalic of West Virginia 50-47, with both pitchers throwing a relatively low 64.9%.  Even with this low game, Jimmy managed to compile a phenomenal average of 81.0%.  Jimmy’s best game of the tournament was with Al Zadroga when Jimmy threw 89.0% winning 51-21.  The highest percentage game of the Clas A competition cam when Zadroga defeated Ted Allen 51-20 while throwing 89.4%.

Class B honors went to Glenn Riffle who also had the distinction of throwing the highest percentage game of the entire tournament, a 93.3% against Robert Bird.  In this game, Glenn only missed two shoes.
