Solomon – New Brighton, Pennsylvania Open Champ

Jimmy Solomon of Uniontown won the first major tournament of the 1964 Keystone State season in convincing fashion.  Although the tournament was plagued with a constant drizzle, Jimmy was able to move through the competition without a loss.  Oscar Engle of Dormont was runner-up, losing only to Solomon.

Sam Sutton of Washington, probably the most improved pitcher in Pennsylvania, dominated the Class B event with a comfortable 7-0 record and eight percentage points above his nearest competitor, Relman Wilson, New Brighton.

The New Brighton Club managed by Herman Boyer, Paul Smith, Earl Wright, and Burrell Brobeck deserve a lot of credit for organizing and conducting this tournament under such adverse weather conditions.
