Elmer Hohl, Canadian Champ, Takes Eastern National Crown
Husky Elmer Hohl took the Eastern National title north of the
border into Canada, losing only one game to Pennsylvania State champ Jim Ohler
and averaging 82.95% ringers. Ex-World
champ Harold Reno of Ohio placed 2nd and present world champ Paul
Focht took 3rd with New York’s Carl Steinfeldt finishing 4th. John Clingan of Florida won the
sportsmanship trophy.
George
Dilgard of Ohio pitched 75.9% ringers to edge Arner Lindquist of West Virginia
for the Class AA title. Herm Boyer of
PA won a closely contested Class A crown with Stan Manker of Ohio 2nd. Howard Bryant of Ohio captured Class B from
John Curtis of Ohio and J.F. Rainbow of Pennsylvania.
World
Champ Sue Gillespie lost an exhibition match to Ex-World champ Anna
Lindquist. Other ladies who pitched at
Erie were Ruth Thomas and Linda Duda of Lockport, NY and Ruth Bennet of Ohio.
The
Erie, Pa club did a wonderful job of donducting the large tourney that was
directed by Joe Peters, Casey Pluta, Paul Beers and Glen Sebring. National officers Harold Craig and Bob Pence
attended along with Reggie Fish, head of the New Hampshire State group.
