James Ohler Repeats In Dormont, PA Invitational Tournament

James Ohler, the 1962 Dormont Invitational champion and the Pennsylvania state champion, went undefeated in the Class A competition of the Dormont Invitational Tournament a five county open event.  Even though wind and rain hampered the competition, Ohler was still able to average 73.4% ringers.  Ohler’s toughest competition was encountered when he played Albert Zadroga, runner-up in Class A, and Oscar Engle of Dormont.  Both Engle and Zadroga gave a good account of themselves averaging over 70% ringers in the wind and rain.

In class B the round robin competition ended in a tie between Clyde Martz of Dormont and Sam Sutton of Washington.  In a one game pitch-off, Sutton defeated Martz for the championship.

Paul Smith of Beaver Falls, William Cahill, Sr. of Dormont, and Frank Murphy of Traetum were all tied for the Class C championship.  After a three game pitch-off, Smith came in first with Cahill placing second.

Class D was won by a very good up and coming pitcher, Carl Heinzel of Dormont.  Second place was won by William Cahill, Jr. of Dormont.
