James Ohler – Pittsburgh Area Horseshoe Champion

James Ohler, Pennsylvania State Champion from Scottdale, won the Pittsburgh area championship by defeating Al Zadroga, Allegheny County Champion from Elizabeth, at the Dormont recreational horseshoe courts on August 18th.  The Pittsburgh area consisted of Allegheny and bordering counties.  Ohler threw 82% ringers in a game with Sam Sutton, Washington County Champion, for the highest percentage game of the day.  James Solomon, 1961 Northwest Open Champion, came the closest to winning over Ohler, with a score of 48-50.  Both pitchers were over the 70% mark in ringers.

In Class B John Clingan, a past Pennsylvania State Champion, captured first place with Paul Smith of Beaver being the only man able to defeat him in the round robin.  Class C was won by Merle Trumble of Oakmont by defeating Maryan Glinka of Coraopolis in a pitch-off.  Class D honors went to Robert Bird of Washington after winning all his games in the competition.  Jake Fiore of Wexford defeated William Pfluger in a pitch-off to win the Class E championship.
